Let’s work together
Are you a candidate for an EB-2/National Interest Waiver? Let’s find out.
EB-1 and EB-2 NIW Green Cards for University of Kentucky Students and Researchers
The University of Kentucky is home to nationally recognized programs in engineering, medicine, agriculture, and energy research, all fields that align closely with the U.S. national interest. Many UK graduate students and postdoctoral scholars publish research, present at conferences, and collaborate on funded projects, accomplishments that can form the foundation of a strong NIW or EB-1 petition.
If you have:
Peer-reviewed publications or citations
Conference presentations or professional memberships
Research grants, patents, or applied innovations
Teaching or mentoring experience
Recognition from experts in your field
—you may already meet key criteria for one of these green card categories.
EB-2 National Interest Waiver (NIW)
The EB-2 NIW is ideal for UK students and researchers with advanced degrees or exceptional ability who can show that their work has significant benefit to the U.S. You don’t need an employer or job offer, just strong evidence that your work matters nationally. Many NIW applicants at UK are in STEM, health sciences, or public policy fields.
EB-1A Extraordinary Ability
The EB-1A is reserved for individuals at the top of their field. It requires meeting at least three out of ten USCIS criteria, such as awards, publications, and evidence of original contributions. Some UKY Ph.D. candidates, postdocs, and faculty with extensive research records may qualify under this category.
Local Guidance, Nationwide Representation
Even though immigration law is federal, working with a Kentucky-based attorney (and UK alumnus) who understands the academic environment at UK can make a difference. Powell Law Office assists clients throughout the U.S., but we take special pride in helping University of Kentucky international students and researchers plan their immigration future while completing their degrees or research appointments.
Ready to Explore Your Options?
If you’re an international student, postdoc, or faculty member at the University of Kentucky and want to learn whether EB-1 or NIW might be right for you, schedule a consultation with Powell Law Office.
