A note from Mr. Powell
In response to the killing of Renee Good
It is rare that I feel any need to use this platform to make any statement about current events. Today, on behalf of myself and my firm, I do.
Like most Americans, I have spent the day furious and heartbroken at the extrajudicial killing of Renee Good, the young mother and US-born citizen in Minneapolis who was gunned down at point blank range by a masked ICE officer. Following the killing, ICE officers armed for war prevented a civilian physician from administering life-saving care. The event was utterly evil.
I have no words—or perhaps I have too many words—to adequately express my feelings of anger, sadness, and shame; I know that those feelings are shared by most Americans. Our administration and its enablers rejoice in the over 600,000 families and communities that were torn apart by ICE deportations in 2025. Today, they rejoice in ICE gunning down people in the streets, just as President Trump promised he could do all along. https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/01/23/464129029/donald-trump-i-could-shoot-somebody-and-i-wouldnt-lose-any-voters
As a Christian, citizen, and (if it matters) a former ICE attorney, I am appalled and disgusted at this event and at the depraved enablers who encourage and celebrate it. All Americans, regardless of your political, social, or policy beliefs, must reject this heinous killing and call for justice.
Contact your congressman and tell them that this event must never be allowed to repeat.
